Question about Square for Restaurants Pricing

Thinking about purchasing the Square for Restaurants system. Got a couple of questions.

1) If I wanted to try out the free version of the POS and put it on my iPad that I have now, how easy is it to transfer to the real point of sale register I get later on? I see it can only be used on one terminal, but I don’t want my iPad Pro to be that final terminal.

2) My store setup would require a dedicated square register at the front for the cashing out of customers (whether it be food, or our convience store items like beer/soda/chips/etc.) and another iPad system at the kitchen counter to take orders by phone and by walk-in customers. Would that iPad be considered a Mobile POS at $20 a month or would it be another POS system that would require a $69 a month fee? The iPad wouldn’t take any payments, it would just be the focal point of taking orders. (We would also be getting a KDS screen for deeper in the kitchen to keep track of orders)

I am a little confused by this:

The reason I am confused is because I use Squae for Retail. I used the Free version and was able to put in on 2 Ipads and 3 cell phones and one or two android Tablets without an extra fee. So where did you see that there is an additional fee for each unit?

The $69 fee per Location is not equal to per point of Sale register, it is a fee based on Physical Locations. Restaurant at Main Street vs Restaurant at Lombardi Ave for example. Each Location can have any number of POS's that I am aware of.

So how easy is it to move your Items from a Ipad to a Square Register, VERY EASY. When you create your Items on your Ipad they are sent to the Cloud. Then when you download your Square For Resturants app on a New device, your entire catalog is now accessible to that new device once you login with your Square credentials. So your Catalog is stored in the cloud and your POS devices need an internet connection to access and update the Cloud catalog.

Hope this makes sense.

That's what makes me wonder about devices. For the Plus version it is $69 a month, and it still states only 1 device.

Now I see that in the Resturant Pricing and I looked in Retail it is not there.

I will tag a few moderators and see if they can offer a clarification as when you look up the footnote 1, it just states hardware is sold sepperately. Do you know if for 1 Countertop POS Device would mean for only 1 Square Stand for example?

Hello @blade1323,

Thanks for your inquiry on Square for Restaurants pricing! If you were using Square Restaurants Plus it would be $69 per month and will cover once device. Any device addtional device you use that is running and processing payments on Square Restaurants will be charged an addtional $50 per device. So if you use Square Restaurants on your ipad it would be $69 + $50 = $119 per month.

What if you're not processing payments on that iPad and just using it to take-in orders, either by phone, walk-in, or online, and all credit card transactions go through the register?

Any device that is paired and logged into the Square Restaurants app will be charged. Even if you are just taking orders, you will be charged. I hope that helps @blade1323! 😊
