Hello @Cyclebitzshop ! Welcome to the Seller Community!

The setting to Overwrite entire item library will do just that: if you upload a file with one item and choose this option you will only have one item in your library when it's done.

As long as the Overwrite toggle isn't enabled, any items in your import will be added to the existing library. If the imported item has all the same settings as an existing item, it will not be updated. If there is one difference in the settings you will get two of the same items.

More information about importing items

Hope this helps!

In Item Library > Actions > Import Library, is the "Overwrite entire item library" only overwriting the specific items being uploaded or does it actually overwrite everything in the database?
In order words, is this the way to update (overwrite) certain products or not?

Thanks

Pat

Glad I asked before "deleting" my items library 🙂

So is there not a way to update items with an upload instead of painstakingly having to make product updates one by one?

@Cyclebitzshop You can definitely mass update your item library, just make sure you have the overwrite toggle disabled.

I should have been clearer: if you change a component of your item, say its category, the item will duplicate itself. If you're using the upload to update inventory numbers, that's completely different. The system will see the inventory update and update the existing item.

Also, some of the bulk options may be available directly from the Dashboard. When you select multiple items, look at the Actions button in the lower right. Things like sales channels, online visibility, and more are available there.
