Tableside payment needs to be a standalone device or app, or someway for it to not be the full pos for the customer. We currently take orders via an ipad mini at the table, it's a little clunky, but seems to work.

Do you mean like a kind of kiosk option, which wouldn't be the full POS for the customer?

Where you can leave an iPad permanently on each table?

Nobody wants a kiosk. For full service, a standalone app for checking out is needed. For tableside payments, giving a customer the full app would be a mistake.

@Victoria_SQ we currently use the iPad mini with the Square for Restaurants app along with the Square Reader and it's a perfect setup. We're able to take table side orders very quickly and also take customer payments even quicker (without having to print receipts/collect signatures/manually input tips). It's a very quick and easy process which saves us a lot of time.
