Email sign up coupon

When did Square start giving out coupons for signing up for email newsletters and why is it automatically giving them out? It should be an opt-in option. that link has been on the website for years and just started getting questions. I had a couple of customers come in a few days ago with coupons and I was like that must be for our neighbor's business as we don't have any coupons. Turns out it was ours. I couldn't find where to even type in a coupon code. Nothing shows as a current coupon offer here https://squareup.com/dashboard/customers/marketing/coupons
Finally found where it was coming from in contact collection https://squareup.com/dashboard/customers/marketing/contact-collection
you then click "edit signage", why I have no idea, it isn't signage but a link on our website, and turn off "offer a coupon". we just used it as a $5 payment because we couldn't find where a coupon code would go.

It all happened when there were 20 people in line so we didn't get the best details or most thorough looking at options but at least got it turned off.

So I found a different thread and it appears to have been something that happened back in November when some changes were made and I didn't run into the issue until a while ago because of our seasonal business.
