Unfortunately there's no way to transplant an existing website into Square Online, which is a template based web building solution.

If you have your own custom built website though and are a web developer (or have web developers to help) you can integrate Square APIs into an existing website. You can read a little more about this here.

I had to pay for a year of hosting in advance only to find that you guys do not offer a shopping trolley suitable for my store. The cropping of all images the same way is bloody awful. Surely this can't be everything you offer ?

We offer a free version of Square Online that you can try before you buy to see if the product is right for you and a breakdown of what's included in the plans, which can be purchased on a month by month plan as well as a yearly plan.

If the platform isn't what you're looking for then I do encourage you to get in touch with support to discuss your options.
