Hey not sure if anyone else has ran into this but over the weekend a security certificate with an expiration date in march 2025 on Google v2 chromecasts...well expired..rendering it dongle with no dingle.

I bring this up here, because I cast a kds to a 32" TV in my kitchen, and wow have I missed it. I don't know if anyone else does this, but it really hurts when something outside of your control impacts your business, especially with older technology.

Square has been upgrading the stand, there are older dip/tap readers that are bluetooth. The KDS system is moving completely to android this year, but iOS is still firmly part of the ecosystem. I know I have some ipads that have had their last iOS update....

Nothing is getting killed off too quickly, but I think it is worth noting as a community, what is your plan if something you have someday stops working? It is great that some square readers are still going after 10 years...but I know I don't have much else that is that old, some led tvs I use for signage. Attrition is inevitable, but what about when it is planned? But that is the nature of business we all face: limited time and energy or resources if you prefer that term.

As for the google chromecast v2, I found a fix that worked, required me to download an APK (it was safe) and paste in a cryptic command and it brought up a list of options where I could disable the security check on an android tablet (it works for iOS supposedly too) for the casting only and bam...back in business. I am industrious and hate to give up...and I probably devoted too much time to the fix, but it reminded me I need to make sure I have my backup plans in order.
