How do I enter/record yarn that was used to make a sweater used as a store sample?

I want to keep a record of the yarn used for all the samples as well as remove it from the inventory and account for the cost.

For example, I use 5 balls of yarn to knit a sweater. Do I create an item that says "sample" and then discount it 100% and is there a way to track this 100% discount/item??

If you measure the quantity of your yarn, you may be able to use decimal quantities to track your usage for samples.
