How to allow custoers to add a message witht their order

I would like to know how I can allow customers to add a message with their order. I am an online gift store and this is part of the service I need to offer my customers when they want a persomal message on their gift they are buying from me, so it needs to be before purchase? Please help

You can enable "allow customer to leave a note to seller" in 'advanced settings' within the checkout menu:

Or, if the message would be per item then you can add a text field modifier for any item you want to. I use this as an 'any allergies' field for pizza, so it links to each item & easy for the seller to see what it's for.

My customers can leave notes on their orders, most use it as a way to say thanks, but that could be an option for you wanting to add a message!
