Holy cow, did ya'll see Paypal 3.49% + 49¢ per transaction fee?

I know that it's just the cost of doing business but most of the other payment processors are still at 2.9% + 30c per transaction fee and such. Paypal 3.49% + 49¢ per transaction, WOW!!! Makes me reconsider accepting Paypal. Still better than what ebay, mercari, Etsy and Amazon takes from us sellers. It is what it is. I guess we just have to roll with the punches.

Yea unfortunately Afterpay and Paypal processing fees are a bit on the pricy side.

I can justify Square's regular pricing as the price of doing business barely given how much it adds up to each year.

It would be nice to see processors come down on their percentage or at least get rid of the per transaction fee. I get that they need to make a profit but businesses are struggling to barely stay open and then we wonder why. I guess it's like wishful thinking that rent will become reasonable but at the end of the day without retail/customer facing businesses the processors don't get any percentage.

I find the afterpay fees of 6% + 30¢ per transaction fee means the processors are trying to go in the opposite direction and that's worrisome.

I am not a fan of increased fees, however I see afterpay as a possible high ticket generation that otherwise might not get made, and Afterpay takes the risk

I had never heard of aferpay util I moved my site to Square. I guess it's a good thing and a bad thing. It makes it so easy for customers to buy pricey items but the cost to merchants is a bit steep.

I didn't even know Afterpay, existed until I moved my sit to square. As a seller, I'm not a fan of the high fees. As a customer, I like the convenance if offers to purchase high priced items.

I stopped using PayPal to take payment years ago. I'm actually moving totally away from even using it for purchases. I use Square for everything now.

I have considered not using paypal myself, but the way things are going right now, I just don't want to leave any missed chances to make a sale. People actually have used Paypal. I personally preferer that they would just use square, but it is what it is.

I think that's a really valid point. Some people just want to use PayPal. About 25% of my sales are PP and I am sure a portion of those would be abandoned carts if PayPal was not offered. Many people have it linked to their bank account and don't have credit cards.

I am in Canada and we have not seen the PP increase yet. I am sure it's going to happen soon.

All our prices have gone up supplier side. Wages haven't. This was a difficult 2 years for retailers as the market is down. And you suggest lifting prices again? You can try that yourself, good luck if it works for you.

A retail shop can't do that easily. I have a sporting goods shop with bicycle repair. How many items do you think I'd have to reprice? I have a sign telling customers there is a percentage ad on for using a credit card.

The way things are going right now, that last thing I want to do is have a potential customer click off my website because I did not take PayPal. I don't like the high processing fee but a sale is a sale.

That's a good question. I think there is a credit card processing company that charges seller zero processing fees and passes the cost to the customer. Will customers go along with this? I don't know. I guess we will soon find out.

This is a small price to pay and I include it in my costs of items. E.g. my item is delivery so I include gas, insurance, costs of processing sale, my time etc. Due to higher gas costs I went from $10 to 15 per delivery as minimum so if I paid 0.35 for processing the sale it's not a problem. If I paid 0.40 a sale I'm still covered. I am not going to worry about an extra 0.50 cents in processing. I get more sales and payments quicker by accepting PayPal and credit cards.

You put it in your costs to sell it ie if your items costs you $15.00 now you say it costs you $16 .00. Then add your profit.
