Old script from old widget to delete

Hi, I have a Weebly website which contains old script/code from old widgets. The widgets were updated (deleted and new ones replaced) but the old code still remains inside website coding. Apparently there are 5 examples. It is easy to find because the code has a unique text which is "strait". However I cannot work out how to delete this code. Any help appreciated. I am not a web developer, just used Weebly 15 years ago! Thanks

Hi there,

One thing I'd try first is using the search function within your theme or site settings to search for the word "strait." Since it's unique, that may help you track down where the old code is still living.

If you haven't already, check any Embed Code elements, Header Code, Footer Code, and Theme settings. Sometimes old widget code can stick around there even after the widget itself has been deleted.

If you can tell where you're seeing the code (site source, SEO scan, error report, etc.), that may help narrow it down further.

Hi, thanks for quick reply, as mentioned I am not a web developer, so have little knowledge. When I open "view page source" on my homepage, I can search and find the rogue pieces of code but from there I cannot work out how to delete them.

How do I access an edit page to be able to delete this code?

If you're seeing the code in "View Page Source," unfortunately you usually can't edit it from there. That's just showing you the code that's already being generated by the site.

I'd take a look in your Square Online editor under any Embed Code sections, custom code areas, Header Code, Footer Code, or theme settings. If you can tell where you originally added the widget, that may help narrow down where the old code is hiding 🙂

Thanks for reply, unfortunately I am using the very old Weebly editor which does not have a separate Embed code section or custom code area. The code would have been written as a widget, which when I deleted code text and input replacement code in same field, this has not completely deleted old code, even though it does not show in Weebly embed box. I have checked header and footer and theme sections and not in there. Really need someone who knows the old Weebly system to actually look at website from a pure developers action, which obviously I cannot do. Highly likely this old code is on homepage, booking page and maybe 1 or 2 other pages.
