My Weebly website no longer plays my mp3 files

I have many mp3 files loaded on my weebly website. They all worked Monday, March 30, 2026. As of Tuesday, they all stopped working. WHY?

Yes, same issue with my weebly site. The "play" button is not active when trying to play my uploaded mp3 files as of Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Same problem here. My workaround is to use the "embed code" component to call the HTML 5 player, but that doesn't fix all the older posts.

Yeah, I've also been having issues with Weebly mp3 files playing. The strange thing is that I can still download them via the 'Save link as' option on the right click menu and it plays fine on the computer but not the website.

I just hope Weebly can fix this.

That posts suggests it likely was a recent security change on the server side

Here is Weebly's response. Having heard this impacts Chrome, Safari, and Edge, I'd doubt their blaming "recent browser updates". Feel free to contact their tech support to complain:

Go to https://www.weebly.com/app/help/us/en, scroll to the bottom, and click on "Contact Us".
Enter your question, press Continue.
See the list of suggested articles, scroll to the bottom, and click on "I still need help. Let me talk to someone."
You will be given a choice of emailing them, messaging them, or calling them.

Perhaps if enough people question their position, they may dig deeper and/or reconsider. By the way, what I've learned so far:

If you choose their Audio element, it appears you must re-upload every file (you can't reference a previously uploaded one).
If you choose the embedded HTML5 approach, you can reference the uploaded file in your HTML, but it appears you must use the full URL.
- And at least on iPhone (IOS 18.x using Chrome) when viewing the "mobile rendering" of the webpage, the HTML5 element doesn't work.
Weebly does have 3rd party apps. Don't know if they overcome these limitations.

Looks like you are trying to use the file download element and not the audio element for these. This is working as intended. You should be using the Audio element instead for audio files to play on your site.

"This appears to be a known limitation of the Weebly File element, not a regression. The File element produces a direct download link to the MP3 — whether the browser plays it inline depends on the browser and MIME type headers served. The File element was not designed as an audio player; it's a generic file download link.

The proper Weebly feature for online audio playback is the Audio element (under Build → Media), which renders an actual play/pause player. Alternatively, you could use an Embed Code element with an HTML5 <audio> tag pointing to the uploaded file URL.

Due to recent browser updates, chrome/safari often blocks audio from embedded links, uploads, or autoplay videos to improve user experience which would make sense why the audio file will not play when uploaded to a link."
