Why on gods green earth are firmware updates happening to devices during the workday and not at midnight.... 5-10 minutes of downtime during the day is unacceptable.

Hey @LeeMaple,

We recommend leaving your Square Terminal plugged in and powered on overnight for automatic updates to complete.

Square Terminal software updates include a system update, Square apps update, and a firmware update.

If you prefer not to leave your hardware on and plugged in overnight, here's how you can manually update your system first thing in the morning.

To manually update your Square Terminal software:

1. From the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen, tap ≡ More > Settings > Hardware.
2. Tap General > About Terminal > Software Update.
3. Tap Check for Update.

If an update is available, it will automatically start to download.
If there is no update available, you can check back later.

4.Tap Install Now to immediately start the update.

Software updates typically take around 20 minutes to complete but may take up to one hour.

Note: During a firmware update, you will be able to use the Square Point of Sale apps to accept cash payments. You are not able to accept card payments until the firmware update is complete, which typically takes 15-20 minutes.
