@KarmaBunny All Square POS apps require at least iOS 16. Upgrade first then see if you are still having the issue.

Hello @KarmaBunny !

I'm not sure why you feel @TheRealChipA was spamming you with his response. In order to run correctly, Square now requires iOS 16+. You can verify this by looking at this help page and entering your iPad's model. Every model I try on this list all say that iOS16+ is needed.

Since you're running 15.5, there may be things that just won't work with the Square app anymore. If the device won't take the update to iOS 16, it may be the end of its usable life as a Square device. Unfortunately there's not a lot more that we can troubleshoot once the device isn't able to be upgraded anymore.
