Square for Restaurants needs a simple, built-in table booking system

Hi everyone,

Square for Restaurants is already fantastic — it really does almost everything I need: loyalty, gift cards, tableside ordering, delivery integration, bill splitting, and even staff management. It’s one of the best all-in-one solutions out there.

But the one big piece that’s missing (and I know I’m not alone here) is a simple, integrated table booking system.

Right now, most EPOS systems — Square included — rely on third-party booking apps. The problem is:

They’re often expensive, with hefty monthly fees.
Integration is clunky compared to Square’s own native tools.
They don’t always sync smoothly with Square Restaurants.

What I’d love to see:

A straightforward reservations tool, built directly into Square for Restaurants.
Ability to allocate bookings to tables, track covers, and manage walk-ins alongside reservations.
Optional Google booking integration so customers can reserve straight from search/maps.
Nothing too fancy — just something reliable, streamlined, and fully Square.

I’d happily pay an additional monthly fee for this, just like I do for Loyalty or Staff Management, because it would make Square for Restaurants a true all-in-one solution without needing clunky third-party add-ons.

Does anyone else feel the same? If Square made this happen, I think it would be a game-changer for independent restaurants.

I agree that an integrated table management and booking system would be a fantastic addition. However, and I believe I speak for most people, even the current floorplan feature has a lot to be desired.

As you pointed out, we currently leverage third party applications and their integration is less than stellar. After researching and trying out a wide variety of other potential options, I've decided to design & build my own solution.

I believe I can do this because I've been involved in running bars & restaurants for several years, have developed other apps (although it's been a while), and I worked for IBM for almost 20 years. Since I'm a one man show, I don't yet have a timeline for the initial release but I have what I believe is a pretty solid model.

I agree that it would be awesome to have this! Also agree that the floor plan tool could be significantly improved. Would be willing to provide input and alpha/beta test both.
