Hi there, @SplitGIllStudio,

Thanks so much for reaching out, and your shaker keychain charm setup sounds really fun and creative!

You're exactly right that the current modifier system in Square doesn’t allow for individual stock tracking. Modifiers are best for customization options where inventory isn’t a concern, so unfortunately, they don't currently support quantity-based inventory limits. That’s why, even if you only have 5 of a particular add-on, customers could technically select more than you have available.

Here’s a workaround we recommend for situations like yours:

Use Variations or Separate Items Instead of Modifiers

You can create the charm body as one item and set it up with stock-tracked variations or add-ons as separate items in your catalog.

Then, use Square Online’s item bundles or linked items (if applicable) to let customers choose their add-ons with visible stock levels for each.

Another option is to guide your customers to select their add-ons from a separate item listing that clearly shows the available quantity (e.g., “Choose Your Charm Fillers”) and link to it from your main charm product page.

We understand this isn’t quite as seamless as modifiers, but it’s currently the best way to ensure inventory tracking for add-ons. Please feel free to reply with how you’d like the flow to work for your customers, and we’d be happy to help you build a setup that fits as closely as possible with your needs.

Adding Modifiers/Add-ons with stock limits?

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I have a shaker keychain charm that customers can choose what charms they want inside. I can make a listing for the main body of the charm but if I use the modifier feature, there doesn't seem to be a way to limit each individual modifier but I have limited stock of each.

Ex:

Shaker charm body (10 in stock)

Add on 1 (20 in stock)

Add on 2 (12 in stock)

Add on 3 (5 in stock)

Add on 4 (8 in stock)

Add on 5 (10 in stock)

With the current modifier system, while customers can choose as many of the add-ons as they want - even if I only have 5, they could choose 30 because I can only indicate "in stock" or "out of stock" - not the actual number I have on hand.

Is there a way to do add-on items that would allow for me to input stock quantities?

Thanks!

Hey Ellie!

Thanks so much for your reply. I was thinking that the bundle option might work out well but I'm struggling to figure out how to select what I want - this is all I see in my menu:

Since I'll largely be selling in person with a few online sales as well, I'm looking for a system that easily works for both and that is mostly logical for anyone helping me during markets. A more accurate breakdown would be

$15 for the charm base + 2 filler charms
+ $1 for each additional charm

However, those first two charms can be any of the charms, so I think for the online version I'd have to do a buy this listing, get two charms free type of deal to avoid people only purchasing the base without the filler charms and then I could have a separate listing for all the filler charms with their stock quantities.

But for the online orders, I'd love to be able to more easily link the two or make it a bundle deal so it's more obvious.

Thanks for your help!
