Can I get categories to be a sortable function?

Is there a way to allow customers to sort by category or only price and what's on sale?

I want to classify by color grouping (I sell a hair product thing) and this would be a much easier search as I continue to add more product inventory. Aright now it's 16 items, but the more items I add the more difficult it will be for customers to scroll through to find what they are looking for.

The sorting options we currently offer are:

Popularity
Newest
Price (low to high and high to low)
Alphabetical (A-Z and Z-A)

Although sorting items by category is not currently possible, the option to browse by category is present when items are assigned to multiple categories.

Once Categories are set up, you will see All Items and your categories below.

Customers also have the option to see only items that are on sale, using the Sale and Deals submenu.

In your case, if you want your items to be classified by color, you can create a category for each color you offer and assign the appropriate items to their category.

Is there a trick to browsing by category that I might be missing? I have them assigned but I'm not seeing that on my website as a function?
