Square Online website performance is slow

Hi,

More than a year ago I built a website (https://tempsdepices.square.site/) using Square Online.

One thing that disappoints me since day 1 is that my web site is very slow to load.

I test the home page monthly with the Page Speed Insights tool (same as Chrome Lighthouse, i.e. same as in Google Search Console), performance is sluggish (between 12 and 17 out of 100 for mobile, 13 to 19 for desktop):

Details on the performance section:

I have been doing these measurements monthly since more than a year, and it is always slow, regardless of the day of the week or time of day, this is not due to a temporary internet overload.

I investigated the details that Page Speed Insights delivers, to see what I could improve. It reports multiple issues, most of which are related to the underlying website itself (i.e. weebly) and not my content:

The main culprits seems to be related to the JavaScript, which is heavy, maybe not entirely optimized, and also including portions of unused JS and CSS, with many long thread main tasks.

My screenshots are for mobile, but desktop is in the same vein.

The details are easy to see, just run the tool on a square site and you should observe something very similar.

Can the development team please do something about these issues ?

These issues were reported in the past in other threads, but they remain to this day.

They have a negative impact on the user experience of all square site customers, which results in lower SERP ranks, less discovery, less conversion, and, at the end of the day, less income, both for us who use this platform and for Square whose revenue is directly proportional to ours.

Better performance would be a win-win situation for Square and people using Square web site !

PS: Originally the home page had 2 main pictures, 1 small one and our logo, all in reasonable sizes. I tried making them smaller, but this did not result in visible performance improvement.

To be fair since 1 week I added a carrousel with 7 images (approx 200k each) in my home page, but that recent addition made a week ago did not impact the performance score, which remains in the usual range.

IMHO this confirms the issue is not that much related to the amount of actual data on the home page, but more on the underlying JS and CSS.

I don't want to add to your problems sorry but the Cookie consent banner has two buttons without readable text. So the user only has a clear option to Allow all cookies.

Having looked at your website it does look like there won't be much you can do yourself to improve the scores a great deal.

A few points improvement may be possible by increasing compression on the images you upload but otherwise, it will be a waiting game for Square to make some changes

Thanks @Photium for looking into this.

You are right, the cookie consent banner visual aspect is misleading. But it is also generated by Square, I have absolutely no control on that either.

I tried smaller images some time ago, it did not result in a measurable performance gain.

So I guess it boils down to a waiting game with Square, but considering other people came up with the same issue several years ago, I am not very optimistic ...
