One of our very frequent customers wants a report detailing his purchases last year.

We can't find that filter anywhere.

Seems like this would be a very basic report but we can't figure out how to generate it.

We've also tried to generate a report showing customers ranked by purchases but can't figure that out either.

How do we generate these reports?

You can definitely pull this information from the Square Dashboard! Here's how:

For the individual customer's purchase history:

Go to the Customers section on your Square Dashboard.

Search for the customer’s name or contact information.

Once you find their profile, you’ll see a detailed purchase history. You can use this information to manually compile the data into a report for your customer.

For identifying top customers by purchases:

In the Customers section of the Dashboard, click on the "Total Spent" column header in the Customer Directory.

This will sort your customers by the total amount they’ve spent, allowing you to see who your top customers are.

While there may not be a pre-generated report for this, the Customer Directory and purchase history tools give you the details you need to create custom reports to share with your customers.

If you'd like to see a more automated feature for this, submitting feedback to Square is always a great idea—they’re always improving based on user suggestions!

@chuck902 ;

I just went looking to create a Custom Report for a report in Square by Customer and this is not available.

What I would do in this case is Export your years Transactions Details.csv file.

Then Open in Excel.

Click on a cell.

Then click Insert - Pivot Table to a new sheet.

On the Right side select Date

Customer Name

Item

Quantity

Gross Sale

Put the Customer Name as a Filter

Date and Item should auto pupulate in Rows

Quantity or QTY put as a Column

Gross sales as a Value

Then in the Left side there will be a Filter type Icon near the top and select the customer.

Now you sales for that time frame must collect the customers name at the time of sale, some auto generate based on cards and alot do not. So at the Time of the sale you or your employee would have needed their name.

You should end up with a Pivot table that you can print as a pdf. You can also tap the - signe to minimize the chart by date etc.

Here is what it would look like (I used 2 customers to hide names):

Otherwise I recommend going through your accounting Software if you have Customers name also inported for their sales.

Thanks for the reply!

The part IDing top customers is cool. Still needs work though. You can filter by customers who spent over a certain amount over the last 12 months. As far as I can tell the only choice for how much they spend for all time. I don't see a way to show my top customers over the last 12 months and sort by the amount spent in the same time period.

For the customer purchase history, we have customers who have over 100 transactions so trying to do that manually doesn't work.

Thanks Keith,

This is kind of what I ended up doing but without a pivot table. (I need to get better at Excel)

Crazy that this basic function isn't built in.

Today for example it was Justin that needs this, tomorrow its Tina, and next week its a wholesaler. With the Pivot Table you just change the Filter to the customer you need it for. Meaning where I have Customer Name (Multiple Items) Top left area. You just select the customer there and bam new Pivot Table is shown for that customer.

Square was started for small businesses to accept Credit Cards and this feature is more an accounting feature. Most of my sales through Square are my in person sales and people only visit our area 1 to 4 times a year so I needed to select 2 people for my example image above which is why Multiple Items is shown and not Elmer Fudd for example. If i wanted a shorter list I could tap the '-' next to the date and then it would only show the 2 lines in bold of 8-15-2023 and 8-17-2023 and not all the items in the two sales.

1 day Square might give us a way to show what was sold to a customer over an entire year to give to customers but for that I try to stick with my accounting software.

The idea that you would sell software that has Projects, and generates reports, but does not generate a Project Summary report is absurd. Overall, the Project feature of Square is grossly inadequate.
