online store down

We moved our WordPress website over to Square online several years ago, retaining our private domain (GoDaddy) hosted by a Canadian Hosting service. Suddenly our website is down and Square keeps informing us it is published, but online it has an error message. It seems to be trying to go back to our old Wordpress site?

For something like this, I believe your fastest way to get this fixed would be to call into support, as they can see your settings.

Thanks, yes, wise to make that a front line plan. We finally got it sorted. It was the DNS settings affected by a maintenance update by our server host. Back online now.

Sounds like GoDaddy is still using your old WordPress DNS (nameservers). I would log in and make sure they are pointed to Squares DNS servers. I would check all of this in GoDaddy and make it looks like this.

In GoDaddy DNS:

1. Set A record @ → 199.34.228.77

2. Set CNAME www → yoursite.square.site.

3. Remove old WordPress A records

4. Save

5. Wait 30–60 minutes

DNS can take up to 24 hours, but usually faster.

Thanks. Our domain is held by GoDaddy but hosting is through another provider. It was that part that created the problem. After their server maintenance somehow the DNS settings were affected and it pointed back to our old website. All sorted now.
