How to create a store discount on specific items that isn't automatic?

Hello,

I use Square Retail in my store and I'm trying to create a 10% off discount button for my bulk products only, that can be applied manually to certain customers. In creating this discount, I'm only seeing the option to apply it to specific products if it's automatic, but i don't want this discount available to everyone. This is a membership perk for customers who are apart of my membership program. My membership program is with a 3rd party app Pintuna. I don't have a membership program set up under Square. So once my customers spend their membership store credit, they receive 10% off bulk products. I'd like to be able to add this discount specific to my customers that only applies to my bulk category, not the entire store.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi @RiseUpRefillVT.. I think coupons should work. You can set them up in your web dashboard at Customers > Marketing > Coupons. You CAN make them item/category specific, but you CAN'T make them customer specific. Still, they could be manually applied -- either at your POS or in your website if the customers are given the coupon code.

That being said, you have a couple of considerations. For example, is this a perpetual discount once their have spent their membership credit? Or does each customer have limits, etc? You can limit the number of times a customer can use a coupon, but that's about it. The rest would have to be manual. I might be able to help more if I new exactly how your program works.

@RiseUpRefillVT You can create a discount and through discount rules have it applied only to customers that are part of a particular group, see screenshot below
I would test this and see if it works for you.

@mitin I don't believe that will work for @RiseUpRefillVT.. They mentioned in their original post that they do not want automatic discounts, in this case.

@TheRealChipA good point, its a complicated situation to completely automate the selection of the discount qualification criteria.

Thanks everyone! For now I'm just manually adding the discount to certain products within the cart. Not ideal, but it's working for now

Thank you for pointing out coupons/discounts. you could create a discount button on your Square retail point of sale that can be added to the client. This discount will need to be made ahead of time @TheRealChipA pointed out with the items you want discounted. This is how you get it on your square pos register.

When the cashier applies the button on the transaction, it should only apply to the items that are on the discount.
