Making a second website

Hi,

If I wanted to create a second website, how much control do I have with it? I want it to pull from there same inventory as my current website since it would be shared, but can I change the descriptions of the items? Or Can I change what appears on a customer's bill for the second website? Or is this second website just a way to make another of exactly the same?

You can create a 2nd location. That's what I did. I have a computer shop, and an ebike shop. I have two websites. When I create a new item, I set the locations it can be sold at. So my ebikes don't show up in my computer site or my computer POS.

With that being said, whatever description you put will appear on both sites if you allow an item to be sold at both locations. The inventory system is centralized for all of Square. So the descriptions you put show up on your reciepts, invoices, and website, if you have all that enabled.

Your best bet in that situation would be to make a dupe of an item if you want it to be a different description; however, you will have to make sure you carefully track inventory. If you don't track inventory, then that is your best bet. This way, you at least won't have to start over.

As for billing, it will be different based on which website they checkout at.

Also, the nice thing about a 2nd location is that any benefits you have (Retail Plus, Invoices Plus, etc) all carry over to the 2nd location.

@PerroneTech thanks for the response! The plan I've been mulling was to have a different brand that can go in different directions from my main brand. But I didn't want it to just have identical information, descriptions, etc. it would just make both confusing and I purposefully want them separate from each other. The catch is that they would need to pull from the same inventory which needs to be tracked properly. I have over 800 skus and it rotates all the time. But from the sounds of it, what I want to do isn't possible with Square.

Yea. It was designed more for like if you have two shops for the same business. I just worked it a bit to be two seperate businesses.

But if you want two different descriptions, names, etc for the same items, it won't work without creating a separate item.
