Distance calculator for delivery is incorrect

if i set a parameter of 30km for delivery fees with variable fees depending on the distance, it will not work properly because the distance calculated is way less then the actual distance.

I have tested it with just a short distance of 1000 meters and it calculated 770 meters.
Imagine the misscalculation it does over several KM ???

I have temporarly modified my distance in accordance to your systems shortall by calculating it at 0.77 for every KM instead of 1.00

Hi @4506261565,

As a first step, based on previous cases, our Application Support Engineering team recommends checking that your main location has a verified address. This means the physical address should match the exact format you’d see if you searched for it on Google.

If your current address doesn't match that format, please update it accordingly and save the changes. In many past cases, simply correcting and re-saving the location address has resolved this issue for other Sellers.

Just a note: we do allow for a small distance discrepancy, but it's very minor, less than 0.1 km.

If the issue persists after making these changes, please let us know and we’ll continue investigating.

Your system does not work because it relies on the distance in radius from point a to point b to be moving like an airplane travelling but it should actually rely on the actual roads because cars cannot travel across houses and buildings or over a river without using a bridge to get to point a to point b. Therefore if I choose delivery radius of 25KM it will not take into consideration all the detours required to get to the customers destination address therefore allowing a much greater distance then actually intended.

I understand where you’re coming from here, @4506261565 . Generally speaking, this is how the delivery radius feature is designed to work.

For Square Online Local Delivery, anyone within the set radius, measured by straight-line distance (“as the crow flies”), is considered within range, even if the actual travel route is longer. The system measures the direct distance between two points on a map, without factoring in roads, terrain, or travel paths.

As you mentioned earlier, any discrepancies can be managed by manually adjusting the radius distance or switching to postcode-based delivery zones instead.

We realise that for some Sellers, the ideal setup might fall somewhere between these two options, but at the moment, this is how the feature is intended to function.

That said, there shouldn’t be any major discrepancies when using the radius option. If you continue to observe these and are using a verified business address, we can definitely take a closer look into it with you.
