Issue with add to cart and checkout

when customer adds an item to cart and then clicks "checkout" the site does not automatically redirect the customer to the checkout page. instead the customer needs to click the shopping cart button and then the site redirects to the checkout page. However it does not fully load the checkout page. The customer needs to refresh the page and only then does the page load properly.

Any way I can fix this? I tried on different browsers and on my phone.
