Complicated Pie selling scenario

I am having trouble configuring a specific scenario in my online store. I sell pies, each in 2 sizes and offer them unbaked and frozen or baked to reheat at home (both would be tax exempt). Here is the complex part: I also sell the individual sized pies hot and ready to eat - taxes would apply in this scenario.

I had it configured as follows:

Chicken Pot Pie > 2 variations {5" Individual, 9" Family sized} > 2 modifiers {Frozen, Baked}. I originally had a separate SKU for HOT - 5" Chicken Pot Pie, but the inventory tracking shows out of stock and it can't be ordered online. If it add it to the modifier, then tax wont be applied.

Help! How can I make this work?

Hello @Momspie

At this time the best way I can see this working is the way you had it before where you had a separate item for the item that has Taxes applied. At this time tax rules can be applied to items and not exclusively to their variations or modifiers.
