How do I set the OPTIONAL modifier drop down menu default to CLOSED on the item page?

I sell bracelets and I have the MODIFIER option "Bracelet Size". When I go to the item listing page, it shows the Modifier drop down menu open to ALL the different sizes. It is a huge long list! I can select the OPTIONAL arrow and close it as a user, but I don't know how to set the default so the customer doesn't see the WHOLE LIST OF SIZE options opened. I would prefer they tap the down arrow to the right of the word "OPTIONAL" if they want to select a size. It would make the item page look cleaner. I couldn't find the setting anywhere to change this. Let me know if you need a photo to help explain. Thanks!
