How can I exclude items from category-based coupons?

I am trying to create a coupon code for a weekend sale. I want it to be for the entire sale excluding some categories/items. In the "Applies to" area, If i click category- there are certain categories that have a few items i would like excluded so that won't work. If i choose specific items that would mean i would have to add each item from our inventory 1 by 1 to be included in the sale.

Just needing some guidance on how to have an online say excluding some items.

Thanks for reaching out with your question!

Currently, the behaviour you're experiencing with Square Coupons is expected. When you select Applies to > Category, it applies the coupon to the entire category. If you choose Applies to > Specific items, you will need to manually select each item you want to include in the sale. You may want to consider re-categorising the items you need excluded at this time.
