How do I create an "Any five items for £X" offer for my Square Online site?

Hello, I'm fairly new to Square Online and I'm not expert in it yet. I want to create an offer where customers can order any five items for a set price. I want to link it to my stock so customers don't over-order and request more of something than I have, and I want the platform to update numbers of each item being ordered automatically to prevent over-ordering. I also want to restrict the offer to five items and I don't want to discount every item in my inventory.

I've thought of creating bundles with set contents and selling them at the discounted price but I would rather let customers choose their own items.

Is there a way of doing this?

Hi @DavidMorgan,

If the 5 items that will be included in this offer are all the same price, you should be able to achieve what you’re looking by creating an Automatic Quantity Discount.

Here’s an example:

From your online Square Dashboard, navigate to Items & Orders > Items > Discounts > Create a Discount.
Add a Discount Name: E.g., “Any 5 [items] for £15!”
Set the Amount Type to Amount (£).
Set the Discount Amount to £0.50.
Toggle on Discount rules.
For Apply discount to, select Quantity.
Set the Quantity to 5.
Click Add individual items to select the items eligible for the discount (e.g., 5 items priced at £3.50 each).
Under Apply £0.50 discount to… click Add Discount Rule, then select Exact Quantity.
Under Apply Automatic Discount, ensure the box for Square Online sites is checked.
Toggle on Minimum Spend, and set the minimum subtotal to £17.50 (e.g., the price of 5 items).
Click Save.

In this example, when a customer adds any five eligible items to their cart, they receive a £0.50 discount on each item. This totals a £2.50 discount, reducing the final price to £15.00. The Minimum Spend ensures the discount applies only when at least five items are added to the cart.

If you want a different final price, adjust the discount amount as follows:

Calculate the total price of five items (e.g., £17.50).
Decide on your desired final price (e.g., £12.00).
Find the difference (e.g., £17.50 - £12.00 = £5.50).
Divide the difference by five (e.g., £5.50 ÷ 5 = £1.10).
Set the Discount Amount to this value (e.g., £1.10).

@DavidMorgan keep in mind when using auto discounts in conjunction with marketing/promotional coupon codes online that you may see some discount stacking. Note with the stacking it takes off the coupon code discount from the original price not from the auto-discount price, so for example a 10% discount ends up being bigger that 10% off the auto-discount price.
