Variation for one-time use

I used to be able to create variations for my items as needed, then add or remove from it as needed. This option is still available for my older products.

Now we have "option sets". Can I create a variation without it being stored in sets? The option sets on my site are running wild. Most times the variations are unique and not likely to be re-used for another item.. so I keep creating new ones to serve my purpose and it's just too much!
Is there a way to activate the old-style variation for some items?

I believe this is a new feature that was rolled out. It won't be possible to change back to the older way, unfortunately.

I'm happy to share your feedback with the team, though. Thanks for taking the time to post about this.
