Square Online: Very Very Slow

Has square considered looking into the latency with Square Online? I am looking at GTMATRIX and it took 2 seconds to load the navigation, 3 seconds to load the side nav and items, and 3.6 seconds to load the images.

It's pretty unacceptable. Does anyone else have a slow online page?

Hi @MichaelTsai- Usually a slow loading site is related to the web browser version. Are you using a web browser that hasn't been updated in some time? That would be a good place to check!

Mine loads slow as well and my customers complain about it to me regularly! Pops up a wait window often. Happens on any device. My computer is new and up to date on apps, so no, it is not a browser issue. At this point and time, I would not recommend Square Online store to anyone. Totally ridiculous....

Same here. I have taken so mich time to build the website and it takes a good 10 seconds to load! I've have customers complain about it and it's not the time to build it or keep using it, if it doesn't bring sales. Worst part is, once a customer picks an item, it takes another 10 seconds to load again. It really is ridiculus. All the time invested in there for nothing.

I emailed support and one thing they told me was to change the default number of items that can be viewed on a page from 180 to 60, because I have a lot of items with pics and it is trying to load all of those pics each time. After that clear internet cache, cookies, etc. It improved the speed on the website. It's better. Try that and hopefully it helps you. If not, send them a message, so they can troubleshoot. It took me 2 times to get the right support person to figure out the problem. Good luck!

What is your mobile site address? Who is your mobile site hosted by?

You can run your site, or a certain page through Google Insights

You can also run it through GTMetrix as well, both of which will give you the best data points on speeding up your site.

My site is UltimateTango.com - and in all reports, it says the mobile version is too slow. It's all on SquareSpace. So there is no separate edit for a mobile version. It is supposed to be optimized. I'm using the Squarespace template, so really nothing much to play with.

I'm not sure of the limits of Square and their optimized mobile version. If they (Square) only allow you to go so far in depth with edits.

I ran your site on pagespeed and I'm not sure if you are able to change or make adjustments to some of the recommended fixes and see if those will speed up your mobile version.

I think it’s just a Square issue. They don’t typically change anything someone requests. You just have to accept that. I have created several new categories pages so I could reduce the amount of items per page. Most of my pages have less than 30 items. It still takes 4 seconds to load a page.

I have the same issues. For months. It takes so long for anything to load. I have tried on multiple computers, at different locations, and different browsers. Its definitely Square servers. If you are running a online version of your physical store, you are definitely going to have more than 100 items. We have been dealing with it, but customers do run into issues a lot if they are using their phone, or they don't have strong internet. If it loaded faster, their wouldn't be that issue on their end.

Sorry to hear about your site loading issues. There are many reasons why a site can be running slow. Large size images on a site can slow down the loading time, too many Weebly app integrations or even custom code may also be a factor. You can try clearing your browser cache and data but without digging more into your site content and details there is no real way to determine the main issue.

I’ve used safari, chrome and windows. I also removed several images and sections from our homepage. It’s still slow.

The thing is, I don't have any images on my website, other then the banner, nor do I have custom codes or Weebly app integrations. And it still runs slow, especially when I try to view 50 orders at a time. I literally have to have two separate tabs open, one to look up the orders, one to show the list. Since it takes so long to go back to the list from the order, the website 1 out of 4 times, resets it back to page 1. And it takes 5 minutes to get back to the page I was at, since it takes a while to load. And this is on a gaming laptop with a SSD with fiber internet.
